Assembly combined their graphics competitions in 2008 so I had only one entry to work on. The characters and visual style are a parody of Team Fortress 2, an online fps game by Valve. The underlying vector outlines and shadows were preserved when painting to keep the crisp video game look. The entry package contains some pictures of unfinished stages. In the end I came 5th in the competition.

Another entry for Assembly '07 demoparty, this was submitted to the Drawn Themed Graphics competition which limits the technique to 'hand-made' images (came 9th in the voting). The main idea is a living plant which is going through all four seasons at the same time in different quarters of the ring.

And now something completely different - a real painting. This is one of my arts class works created in Oulun Lyseo Upper Secondary School. (or just Oulun Lyseo). The original is a 40x40 cm canvas and it's painted in acrylic paint. At first it was just a fun perspective excercise but the hands added a first-person feeling to it.

Classical architecture is a common arts class subject and was especially popular in my former school Oulun Lyseo (see above). Despite the lack of originality I chose this to represent some of the best pencil art I've done. The original size is A1 (59x84 cm).

Next in my arts class series is a human skull study I did with wax crayons. The image is slightly altered as I replaced the original spotty black background with pure black in photoshop. Otherwise it's a straight scan from the original media.

This piece was inspired by an accident I had with a certain power tool (nothing serious, just a scratch). It's a diptych, which consists of two paintings with different subjects. The sum has more meaning than its parts separated. Both are painted with acrylic paint and are sized A3 (30x42 cm).

In Assembly '05 I participated only to the Fast Graphics competition where every contestant must draw a picture of a given theme in 90 minutes. That year the theme was 'Spam Bacon and Eggs'. With my big brother giving some ideas I came up with this straightforward illustration of a spam-filled newspaper. The approach proved so successful that I won the first prize.

The idea for this cartoon came from the strict exam rules we had at school. The text at the top is a straight translation of the instructions. The main goal besides satire was to create a different kind of lighting for every frame.

While sitting in my physics class I realised that it's possible (yet time-consuming) to make quite realistic pictures on a graphing calculator. Pixel by pixel from reference, of course.
